This Allied Health Professionals Day we wanted to shine a spotlight on just some of our hard working and passionate AHPs to celebrate their professions and showcase to others the impact they make to the delivery of high quality care.
Our Physiotherapist Susan gives an excellent insight into how she started her career and the rewarding aspects of being a Physiotherapist.

Role: Physiotherapist
Why did you choose Physiotherapy as a career path?
I enjoy science, being active and I wanted a job where I felt like I was helping people. So, for me Physiotherapy is the perfect combination.
What do you enjoy most about being a Physiotherapist?
It is very rewarding when you feel like you have made a difference to someone’s life.
What are the most challenging aspects of your job role?
I wish I had a magic wand because sometimes there is only so much you can do, but we do our best.
How have you found the experience of working as a Physiotherapist during the pandemic?
I was redeployed during the COVID19 pandemic, and you just had to be flexible and go where you’re needed. While it was great to experience working with another team, I did find it quite stressful. I was so worried about the patients, especially in the beginning when we just didn’t know what it was going to be like, and things were changing constantly.
What advice would you give to students thinking of choosing Physiotherapy as a degree?
I’d make sure you know that Physiotherapy isn’t just about running onto the pitch with an ice pack! Lots of people don’t realise until they are on the course how broad the Physiotherapy role can be.
How long have you worked for Direct Medics?
I have worked for Direct Medics for just over 3 years.
What do you like most about working with Direct Medics?
A friend recommended for me to work for Direct Medics and I found them to be really helpful and kind.
What do you enjoy most about locum work?
Moving over to Northern Ireland, it was a great way to start as it gave me flexibility.
Thank you to Susan and all other Allied Health Professionals for their constant hard work and dedication to care especially throughout the recent pandemic.
